Canal Street Underground Electrical Substation Construction Management, Resident Engineering & Inspection Services

Project Scope

Canal Street Underground Electrical Substation Construction Management, Resident Engineering & Inspection Services.

AAAA Consulting served as a subconsultant to IEI, supporting the AECOM team by providing resident engineering and construction inspection services for the Canal Street Underground Electrical Substation project. The project was undertaken to strengthen the New York City Transit traction power system by constructing a new underground electrical substation to improve system capacity, reliability, and resiliency.

Our team provided resident engineering, field inspection, construction oversight, quality assurance, contract compliance monitoring, progress documentation, and coordination among the owner, contractor, utility companies, and project stakeholders. The project included construction of the underground substation structure, installation of traction power and high-voltage electrical equipment, utility relocations, duct banks, testing and commissioning, and project closeout support. The new facility enhances the reliability of the transit power distribution system and supports both current and future subway operations.
